Alan Rickman Passes Away at 69

By Sandalie Gamage

Alan Rickman, best known for acting as Snape in the Harry Potter movies, passed away on January 14 after battling cancer. Rickman´s death left almost all the actors and actresses who acted alongside him in Harry Potter and his other movies taking to social media to grieve his passing.
J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter said on Twitter, ¨There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor and a wonderful man.¨ Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter, also called Rickman one of the greatest men he’s ever worked with.
Rickman´s first role was as Le Vicomte de Valmont in the stage version of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. He then went on to Hollywood and was immediately offered a role in the movie Die Hard, in which he portrayed a villainous terrorist. Rickman was well known for that role too.
The news of his death came as a shock to many of his co-stars. Rickman had been seriously ill before Christmas, but he hadn’t known how severe his cancer had gotten until the past few weeks. He got to say a final goodbye to his family before passing away.
Rickman will be remembered as Severus Snape to many in younger generations, and as his many other characters to everyone who knew he was. His death still feels unreal to many of his friends and family who had seen him earlier that week.
